Proin (phenylpropanolamine, PPA) is used to treat urinary incontinence in
dogs It is available as 25mg, 50mg and 75mg scored chewable liver flavored
tablets. The usual dose for dogs is 0.5mg/pound by mouth every 8 to 12 hours.

How this medicine should be used
FDA approved for use in dogs only, the usual dose of Proin in dogs is
0.4-0.8mg/pound every 12 hours.
What are the side effects
Side effects when using Proin may include restlessness, irritability, increased
heart rate, increased blood pressure and loss of appetite.
What special precautions are there
This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it. Do not use in
animals with glaucoma, enlarged prostate, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, heart
problems or high blood pressure. Do not use in pregnant or nursing animals. Do
not give this medication with ephedrine or epinephrine and do not give within 2
weeks of using a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as selegilene. Use
caution when this medication is given with digitalis, NSAIDs such as aspirin or
Rimadyl, tricyclic antidepressants such as clomipramine, and beta blockers such
as propranolol. Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other
medications your pet is taking.
In the event of an overdose
Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room. Symptoms of overdose may
include increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, seizures or coma.
