Worm Protector®
Piperazine Paste-Canine Anthelmentic

For Puppies and Adult Dogs

Toxocara Canis: Dogs may become infected with T. canis in four ways: ingestion of parasite eggs, ingestion of the
intermediate host or by becoming infected via the mother. A pregnant dog infected with T. canis encysted larvae in her
tissue can pass them on to her puppies in two ways. The dormant larvae can migrate through the uterus and placenta
and infect the pup. The larvae then enter the lungs of the fetal pup. When the pup is born, the pup will cough up the
larvae and will mature in the pup’s intestine. This is why many puppies are infected before they are born. Larvae
can also enter the female’s mammary tissues, allowing the pups to become infected while nursing. T. canis often use
small rodents as intermediate hosts.

Toxascaris leonina: T. Leonina is a species of roundworm that infect both dogs and cats. After an animal ingests
infective eggs, the eggs hatch and the larvae mature within the small intestine. The adult female worm lays eggs
which are passed in the feces. The eggs become infective after remaining in the environment for at least 3-6 days.
Animal become infected if they eat something contaminated with infected feces. Mice and other small rodents often
act as the intermediate hosts of T. leonina.
